Background: I was born into a musical and artistic family and have purused both like crazy. After years of piano lessons, choir and making music on my yamaha keyboard, I promptly prusued my love for music and singing after I graduated high school. Since then I have played lots of gigs in smoky clubs, released a few albums on indie labels out of Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis and even helped run a record label for awhile. In the meantime, I knew I wanted to go to school for art but decided that the fine art field wasn't for me so I went to school at the UW and MATC in Madison, WI and received my Associates Degree in Applied Arts with a focus on Graphic Design and Illustration in 2004. While in school, I became interested in website design but didn't have the time to work any more classes into my schedule so I took out a lot of books at the library and taught myself the inner workings of web standards, CSS, HTML, JavaScript and even a little Flash. I have been designing websites like mad ever since. I also enjoy writing and have done quite a bit of copywriting such as ad copy and press releases. And as if I needed another hobby, I am also very immersed in internet marketing and blogging. My professional experience began with an internship during school at an assisted living company designing ads, collateral, billboards and brochures. After a couple years there I freelanced for an ad agency doing some layout and eventually took a job with a stock photography comany PunchStock / Getty Images. I worked with their content management system creating galleries, designing newsletters, brochures and promotional graphics for their websites. Around that time I had began picking up alot of freelance work doing club posters, invitations, websites and branding for local businesses. Eventually I made the decision to leave the daily 9-5 grind when I realized how much I loved the variety of work and clients that came with freelancing. I also wanted to spend more time at home with my own little budding artist...my daughter :) Overall, Stellar has brought me nothing but happiness because I am able to do what I love and love what I do! |
